The Rape of Europa Culture is the total of the inherited ideas, values, beliefs, and knowledge which constitute the shared basis of social action. Every society across the world has adopted or created some sort of cultural heritage which they follow. Over centuries in Europe, several great empires have attempted to unite the European nations together leaving behind ruins of once gleaming cities. Could culture survive however if all pieces of artwork and historic architecture were obliterated by war? This culture may not be widely practiced but it will not be lost, having artwork and architecture simply enhance the cultural acceptance. Prophesized by Nebuchadnezzar that Babylon would be seceded by the exact countries that did and that a second Babylon would be built again, the Strasburg site directly shows the prophecy come eer ily true. With this building along with the restoration of artifacts from the original Babylon, the culture was coming back in the ignorance of man and false worship. Not only did Germany begin to reconstruct the biblical city but Iraq also did under the control of Saddam Hussein. Following the idea of uniting the European countries, Saddam began to reconstruct the ancient city of Babylon directly on top of the original. Trying to unite the west with Islam, the attempt coincides near perfectly with the cultural belief of having other Godly figures and the prophecy of what was to come with the second Babylon. Both with Germany and Iraq, when the cultural beliefs of straying from God and mankind with their power seemingly above any other take over the societies experience economic and social turmoil. Cultural beliefs are reminded everyday of their significance in our lives through the preservation of artwork and architecture. If these were to be completely obliterated in war the cul ture does not simply stop but may have a dampening effect. In the late 1980’s McDonald’s introduced a new lineup of toys in their Happy Meal promotions, now offering exclusively Barbie and Hot Wheels as toy options. They were a huge hit, making Happy Meals more popular than ever. â€Å"Is this for a boy or girl?† was added to the list of questions you were asked when ordering. This was one of the beginnings of a new form of marketing that specifically gendered toys and stereotyped interests for each gender (Faust N. Pag.). Advertisements and marketing are not the only influences in perpetuating gender stereotypes. There are numerous influences on the youth of America that aid in the stereotyping of personalities and interests for boys and girls. This extremely rigid two-gender system that is in place does not allow for much free expres sion of gender and ostracizes those who do not fit into that system. 2pac1 Essay Tupac Shakur was one of the most influential artist of our last decade. He not only made several albums, but was also a large role in many films and a poet. Millions of people bought and still buy his albums. He was a pioneer to gangster rap, and he sang about things that mattered. Although, he was a role model and was admired by many, he also had a lot of enemies, and in the end, his enemies over powered his fans by taking his life. Some say that he may still be alive, but no one really knows. Tupac Shakur was born Lesane Parish Crooks in Brooklyn, NY, on June 16, 1971. His mother Afen Shakur changed his name when he was a small child to Tupac Amura after an Inca-Indian revolutionary, Tupac Amura, meaning Shining Serpant. His last name came from his step father, Jeral Wayne Williams, or Mutula Shakur, which means, thankful to God in Arabic. During Tupacs childhood, he was known as the Black Prince, for misbehaving. When Tupac was two his sister, Sekyiwa, was born. A few months before she was born, her father, Mutula, had been sentenced to 60 years for a fataled armed car robbery. Without his step father the family went through hard times. Tupac was very distressed, because they moved to the Bronx, Harlem, and homeless shelters. Tupac stated that he cried all of the time. He couldnt fit in because he was from everywhere, and didnt have any buddies to grow up with. At the age of 12, Tupac had moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended the Baltimore School For Performing Arts, where he studied acting and ballet. Around this time in his life he discovered his love for acting, writing love songs, and poetry. At this school, he left a lasting impression on his teachers and showed tremendous potential. Unfortunately, Tupac moved with his family to Oakland, California, and was unable to finish his training. Thats when Tupac began to hang out with the wrong crowd. When he turned 15, he fell into rap, and started writing lyrics, forming his New York background for all it was worth. He called himself Mc New York and made people believe he was a tough guy. By the time Tupac was 20 he had been arrested eight times, and served eight months in prison, after being convicted of sexual abuse. Tupac then joined the rap group, Digital Underground, as a dancer. Shortly before the group received award-winning success, Tupac released his own album, 2Pacalypse Now, which was a great success. His hit single, Brendas Got A Baby, sky-rocketed his career. His remarkable talent got him a role in the motion picture Juice. Eventually he released his second album, Strictly For My N.I.G.G.A.Z., which was even a bigger hit and introduced his music to the pop charts. On November 30, 1994, Tupac entered a Time Square studio accompanied by Stretch, one of his close friends, and his manager, Freddie Moore. There was a black man sitting on the desk in the entrance way of the office building. The man got up from the desk as two other men walked through the door. The three men followed him to the elevators, drew their guns and yelled, Give up the jewelry, and get on the floor! Instead, Tupac went for one of the guns, during his struggle, he was shot five times throughout his body, including two shots to the head. The robbers got away with $40,000 in jewelry. Tupac was then dragged into the elevator, and then taken upstairs, where Biggie Smalls and Sean Puffy Combs were. No one even got up to help him. They stared at him as if they were surprised he was alive. As he lied there filled with bullets, Tupac reportedly had someone roll him a joint, and then he made a call to his girlfriend who called his mother, who in turn called an ambulance. Somehow Pac e nded up surviving the attempted murder. Tabitha Soren of MTV met with Tupac, as soon as he got to California, for an interview. When asked about the shooting, he looked troubled, as if he was scared to give too much information to the public, in fear of his life. After the interview he pointed the finger toward Bad Boy Records. By saying this, he meant that they didnt warn him of the attack that was about to happen, and they possibly revealed information to the attacker about his whereabouts that night. Some people say that Tupac was shot because of some dealings with some shady people in New York, known as the Black Mafia. It was rumored that they financed Bad Boy Records. King Tut was one of the people involved with the mafia. A week before he was shot King Tut walked in the studio with Biggie, and Biggie supposedly told Tupac not to mess with him. The Black Mafia demanded that Tupac sign with Bad Boy Records because they werent making enough money. Just before the shooting Tupac refuse Bad Boys offer, and was punished by getting shot. Puffy set him up and Biggie new about it. After Tupacs rape case began, he blamed Haitain Jack for setting him up in the trial. Jack and Tut were home boys, and together they shot Tupac on November 30 of 1994. Tupac was shot five times on September 7, 1996 at a party in Knights Club in California. He was rushed to the hospital and remained there until September 13, 1996, when he was finally pronounced dead. Tupac officially died at 4:03 PM.(4+3 = 7) Also he died at an age of 25 years.(2+5 = 7) It seems as if seven is Tupacs number. There is nothing in the new album that says TUPAC RIP 1971-1996. He was a 16th century Italian philosopher who played out the staging of ones death in order to escape ones enemies in order to gain power. In Tupacs new album Machiavelli A.K.A. The Seven Day Theory, relates to how he was shot on the seventh day of September and died seven days later. Also, in this album, he states, Ive been shot and murdered, cant tell you how it happened word for word, but best believe that niggas gonna get what they deserve. The cross that Tupac has on his back says, Exodus 16:31. The line above this one in the bible states, So the people rested on the seventh day. In essence, Exodus 16 is about the seven days. The sketchy part about the whole story is that he was cremated immediately after he died, the next day. Why would they cremate a murder victim the day after the murder? A little over a year later, I was hospitalized for the extreme â€Å"symptoms† of depression. It's important to practice maintaining focus for such a long period of time. Also, taking practice tests will enable you to determine if you're having issues with time management. If you're running out of time on the ACT English section, monitor your time spent per question when you're doing practice questions. You should spend less than a minute on each question and easier questions should take less than 30 seconds. To complete the ACT English section in the allottedtime, you can spend no more than an average of 36 seconds per question. The Social Security solution Essay The plan does not affect current retirees and those nearing retirement benefits for those now 55 or older would be untouched. Neither would it increase the retirement age above current law, increase payroll taxes or reduce annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs), now or in the future. We save Social Security by making two fundamental changes to the system for those now under 55. First, this plan changes the way first-time benefits will be calculated. These benefits now rise with overall wage growth. Under my plan, growth in initial benefits would be linked to the consumer price index. Initial benefits would still rise over time, only at a slower rate. Instead of rising 20 times over the next 75 years, they will increase by a factor of 10. Switching from wage indexing to price indexing will eliminate the unfunded liability of the Social Security system and allow us to avoid increasing the payroll tax for young workers. At the same time, future workers could count on receiving their benefits. Second, workers currently contribute 6. 2% of their wages to Social Security. My proposal allows workers under 55 the option of establishing their own personal savings accounts. Contributions into these accounts would range from 3. 5% of wages for low income workers to 1% for those at high income levels. Workers who choose to contribute to these accounts would have a variety of investment options and could withdraw proceeds upon retirement. But as they will be paying less into Social Security, their Social Security benefit will be slightly reduced. The basic Social Security benefit will be reduced by 25 cents on the dollar for each dollar they receive from their personal savings account. Nonetheless, the private investment account option should offer most recipients the opportunity for greater returns than Social Security alone could generate. Yes, we are asking some in the baby boom generation to insure the solvency of Social Security by making a sacrifice in terms of accepting a slightly lower initial benefit. An average 45-year-old male, for example, would receive about 1. 7% less under my plan, but look what happens in return. First, he is assured of receiving benefits because the solvency of Social Security is assured. More important, his children will receive far more in benefits. Under my plan a 25-year-old male who takes advantage of the personal savings account option should receive 19% more in benefits than promised under the existing system, based on historical averages for conservative investments. Todays retirees and those nearing retirement will receive their benefits just as they expected. Younger workers can not only count on receiving benefits, they will not have to worry about the prospect of working longer hours and paying increased payroll taxes that would otherwise be needed to keep the current system afloat. If they take advantage of the personal savings account option, theyll have more control over their own retirement resources and the opportunity for greater overall benefits than under our current Social Security system-even if it could pay all their promised benefits. Finally, and most important, my plan is honest and realistic. The problems facing Social Security have built up for so long and become so mammoth that everyone must realize they cannot just be wished away. This plan makes clear the costs and benefits, and it avoids false promises. If we are truly concerned about saving Social Security, there is no better plan than this one and no better time to start than today. 1. Introduction International law can go through substantial changes if the privileged legal subjects, states, share a common will. Whenever the circumstances are such, the actors can convene a conference and after a series of negotiations, they might conclude an international agreement among themselves resulting in a new setup of international law. From a procedural point of view, therefore, it is rather simple to ‘make’ international law. If the substantive elements significantly overlap (i.e. common denominator of state interests), international law can be altered in line with the will of the parties. This essay deals with four such fields which have significantly been modified during the post-1940 period: human rights, environmental law, law of the sea, and space law. The first two are of particular importance as they have overarching effects in relation to other legal fields. All the legal transformations identified in this paper, I argue, point into one direction: a less salient principle of sovereign equality and ever-increasing important transnational regimes. Cyber-Bullying Essay

Bullying has become an epidemic that the educational system has been campaigning to cease through the establishment of school wide anti-bullying policies. In recent years the federal government has implemented the National Safe Schools Framework and the Civil Liability Act of 2002, to assist educators with diminishing schoolyard bullying (Campbell 64). Since the development and rise of technological resources, cyber-bullying has expanded the opportunity for the act of bullying to take place; bullying is no longer isolated face to face. Students’ abilities of escaping to a safe haven, away from their harasser, are almost nonexistent. The use of the internet and cellphones has extended the capability of students to be targeted in private places, such as their homes. Due to the extremities and serious effects of cyber-bullying, school policies concerning bullying need to address and incorporate cyber-bullying. † The effects of cyber-bullying on a victim are similar to those effects of school bullying. Mathew Campbell, author of †School Policy Reponses to the Issue of Cyber-Bullying agrees, victims of cyber-bullying expressed feelings of depression and anxiety, thoughts of and attempts of suicide, self-mutilation, lower self-esteem, and a hatred of school (63). It can also be said that these effects can be more severe in cases of cyber-bulling because there is no escape for the victim. The internet and use of cell phones has enabled the harasser to intrude into the victim’s home and eliminate places of security. This has also allowed anonymity of the harasser which in turn, increases the likeliness that cyber-bullying will take place over the confrontational, school yard bullying scenarios. Although the acts of cyber-bullying may not always take place during school hours or on the premises of the school, research shows that there is a direct correlation between cyber-bullying and school yard bullying. After interviewing 20,000 students, it was found that approximately 26% of students are victims of bullying that took place during school hours (Schneider, O’Donnell, Stueve, and Coulter 173). This same research documented that in addition to school bullying, approximately 16% of students are victims of cyber-bullying. When researchers compared students being bullied at school to those being cyber-bullied, it was found that 59% of those victims being cyb er-bullied were also victims of school bullying and 39% of students being bullied at school were also cyber-bullied (Schneider, O’Donnell, Stueve, Coulter 173). It is evident that there is a correspondence between school bullying and cyber-bullying. Currently, most schools have a non-tolerance policy concerning acts of bullying taking place during school hours or on school grounds, but have yet to incorporate the aspect of cyber-bullying. With the use of technology in schools, the act of cyber-bullying is taking place more often in school than just outside of school. The internet use in schools allows students to access social-networking sites, such as Facebook or Twitter, because of their educational purposes, but these sites are some of the origins where harassing comments and intimidating posts are being seen. Along with the internet, the increase in the use of cell phones in school, whether it is against school policy or not, has created another outlet for students to be bullied. These technology sources are eliminating the physical or confrontational aspect of bullying and allowing it to be less visible and easily feasible. Educators are not always aware of what is taking place in schools and less likely to be able to prevent it without victims reporting it, and because there is no policy against cyber-bullying victims are less likely to report it. An educational system’s sole responsibility is to provide a quality education for all students. In doing so, it has taken on the role of creating a safe learning environment which includes preventing students from being harassed and/or intimidated by their peers. Some questions have been raised on whether the jurisdictional boundaries put limitations on what a school may actually do to prevent cyber-bullying without intruding on the legal rights of students. Campbell states, â€Å"Legally a school does not have any responsibility for the care of students within the home†¦ However, a social responsibility of schools is to ensure that their students are cared for beyond that which is legally prescribed† (66). Therefore, any act of bullying that may eventually disrupt a student’s ability to learn or feel comfortable at school, is still the school’s responsibility to prevent. Educators and administrators need to educate students and parents on identifying acts of bullying, as well as the effects of bullying. Parents and students must also be encouraged to report acts of bullying. To ensure that the prevention of cyber-bullying and school yard bullying, the school needs to enforce cyber-bullying rules and set consequences for those who break those rules. The traditional scenario of a child being verbally or physically intimidated in the school yard is no longer the only form of bullying. Technology has opened the doors to a new and less apparent form of harassment. Its emotional and psychological effects are just as severe, if not more lasting. Children have lost the security and comfort of their homes and can no longer escape their harasser. With cyber-bullying being increasingly wide-spread, it is essential that schools incorporate cyber-bullying prevention into their anti-bullying policies.
